Each version of Tecmo Super Bowl has a unique introduction. I’ve made videos of each version including NES, SNES, Sega and even the modified NES version for 2013 by TecmoBowl.org.
Original NES Intro
Though the NES graphics where limited, the music in this version of the game is unforgettable. Panning slowly downward a city skyline at night. You then realize there’s a football game about to start and the crowd is raring to go. Then the music’s tempo picks up while various football teams and players fly across your screen. What’s not to love.
Super Nintendo Intro
The SNES versions doesn’t start off quite as dramatic as it’s predecessor but introduces a unique spin on the cut scenes. These cut scenes where more cartoony than the other versions which can be a good or bad thing depending on your taste. My personal favorite part of this intro is when SUPER TECMO BOWL pans across the screen.
Sega Genesis Intro
The Sega Genesis intro takes you right into the action of two teams facing off at the line of scrimmage. The music in this version is probably the least memorable, but the cut scenes are terrific. I also think that the logo at the end of the video is the coolest of the three.
Tecmo Super Bowl 2013 Intro
This version is pretty much the same as the NES version except with some tweaks including an introduction quote from coach Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants “We talk about wins before all else.” and Eli Manning “If you stick together you win together.” Someone must like the Giants. Then they included current players and teams in the cut scenes. Very, very cool!
In your option which version has the best intro?
